The Estonian Museum of Natural History is a state institution in the area of government of the Ministry of the Environment and has the status of a national museum. Museum’s permanent exhibition is presenting Baltic Sea and its coasts, inland waters and mires of Estonia and "dry and mesic communities" of Estonia - forests and meadows. A very compressed exhibition of world fauna is shown as well. Nature education work in the museum is connected, on the one hand, with permanent exhibitions and a wide variety of temporary exhibitions and, on the other hand, with activities in the study room, park, etc. The work has so far been targeted mainly at school children. Work sheets are supplied for most of the temporary exhibitions and various educational events are organised in the exhibition halls of the museum in addition to tours of the permanent exhibitions.
