Aliens among us!

The Aliens have landed

British Columbia's recent plant & animals arrivals

Not big, green monsters from outer space, but plants, animals and micro-organisms that came here with help from us humans!

Find out what they look like, where they come from, and how they fit - or don't fit – in our environment.

Alien species are plants, animals or microorganisms that live right here on Earth - maybe even in your neighbourhood. In British Columbia, there are over 4000 alien species that have made their way here with help from us. Some species don’t survive. Some adapt and fit in well. Others cause harm and disrupt habitats and native species already living in the area.

On their website, experts from the Royal BC Museum shine a light on 47 important aliens living across BC, from the warm, sunny, southern regions to the colder, northern reaches. You will meet alien birds, reptiles and amphibians, insects and invertebrates, mammals, fish and plants that you can spot around the province. They range from cute and cuddly, to prickly and weird.

Explore their site to find out what these aliens look like, where they come from and how they fit in - or don't fit in - with our environment.
