Summer School for Curators Completed!

The Digital Curation Summer School 2011 was organized by the Natural Europe project and hosted by GRNET at Porto Platanias [1]. During the School trainees had the oppurtunity to get familiarized with digitization practices and digital curation for cultural heritage digital material.

In particular, the participants were trained on the concepts of “digital collections”, “interoperability”, “enhanced services for digital content”, "why applying metadata on collections" etc. They were introduced to the opportunities, threats and benefits for organizations providing cultural heritage material online.

Furthermore, the trainees experienced hands-on sessions on methods and practices for searching, finding and annotating resources in digital repositories and collections. Overall, carefully planned sessions using tools for semantic organization of collections foster innovation in the way these resources are classified and retrieved by the participants of the school.

Also, they were invited to discuss their ideas on cultural heritage requirements with PHd students from the field of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) and prototype them in a fun way.
